By the Numbers: A Decade in the Sunflower League

The following data was comprised during the last decade, stretching from the 2002 season to the 2011 season.

The number of leagues that have represented East Class 6A in the title game, the Sunflower League being the only one.

The number of Simone Award winners the league has had.  Olathe North's Jim Bouknight and James Franklin are the two, having won the awards in 2002 and 2009, respectively.

The number of players who started at quarterback and safety, led their teams to undefeated regular seasons and eventually to a state title game, lost in the title game, and finished as a runner-up for the Simone Award.  Olathe North's Dustin Moomau in 2004, Olathe East's Derek Miller in 2005 and SM West's Blake Lawrence in 2007.

The number of state championships the league has claimed.  Olathe North has won three (2002, '03, '09) and Olathe South has won one (2011).

The number of different programs that have appeared in the 6A state title game, including Lawrence Free State, Olathe East, Olathe North, Olathe South and SM West.

The number of teams who have won or claimed a share of a league title.

The biggest jump in total wins from one season to the next.  Olathe South went from going 2-7 in 2003 to 10-3 in 2004.  Two teams have had a seven game swings: Free State went from 4-6 in 2005 to 11-1 in 2006, and SM West went from 2-7 in 2003 to 9-3 in 2004.
