Sunflower League Extra & Social Media Standings

MVP Ratings
Player rankings are subject to change on a week to week basis.

1. Joe Dineen, Quarterback, Lawrence Free State
Week five stats: 21-of-37 passing, 224 yards, 1 TD; 6 carries, 50 yards, 1 TD

If we've learned anything about Dineen this season, it's that no matter what you do, or how you try to contain him, he's going to produce. Even in Free State's loss he still managed 274 yards of total offense and two touchdowns.

2. Jason Randall, Running Back, Leavenworth
Week five stats: 20 carries, 212 yards, 3 TDs

Randall jumped a few spots in the rankings this week after a superb showing against SM West. Does he have the ability to repeat that kind of performance against Olathe East this week? If he does, he may climb to the top of these rankings.

3. Christian Blessen, Quarterback, SM East
Week five stats: 2-of-2 passing, 40 yards, 1 TD

Blessen didn't do much in week five but he didn't really need to the way his running backs were operating. He might have to play his best game of the season this Friday if SM East wants to push their record to 6-0.

4. Venus Triplett, Running Back, Olathe North
Week five stats: 28 carries, 221 yards, 2 TDs; 1 receiving TD

Triplett is back in the top five of the MVP Ratings after a three week hiatus. Based on the way he performed against Free State, it's hard to envision him dropping from the top five again this year.

5. Ra'Keim Abdul, Running Back, SM South
Week five stats: 9 carries, 49 yards; 2 tackles

Abdul didn't have a game to write home about against SM East, but his Raiders do play SM North this week. It should be an excellent opportunity for him to get a ton of carries the way every other running back has against the Indians.

Honorable Mention: Connor Leach, Olathe East; Drew Green, Lawrence; Cole Murphy, Olathe North; Jake Seurer, Olathe South; Luke Taylor, SM East; AJ Verdini, SM West.

Social Media Standings
Follow me on Twitter @eliunderwood. I will follow you back. Followers with the most interactions (retweets, favorites, questions, comments, etc.) earn the most cred in the Social Media Standings. Also, student attendance at football games and school camaraderie also play into the equation. This week's Social Media Standings are an abbreviated version, because I've been gathering a collection of Tweets from the past week that pay homage to Andre Maloney in a feature story that will be released here in the next 10 days or so. In the meantime, kick back, relax, and see which Katy Perry ROAR contestant has the best video.

I'd love to see how they score some tackles, those stats are INSANE!! Dang impressive.

IMO, they probably add JOP(jump on pile) to tackle stats. ;) lol

Typical stating of tackles is 1st one there gets the solo, then either the next one or two get the assist. I think the next two are the more common, so in theory, there can be 3 tackles given (1 solo, 2 assists) on every play.

That's the problem. To me a "solo" means alone, not with help. An assist would mean more than one person helped in the tackle. Generally I wouldn't think more than 3 could really assist in a tackle. Once the runner is under control then the rest is just JOP.

Either 1 solo or 2 assisted (only in extremely rare cases should there be more than 2 assisted) according to NCAA Football Statisticians Manual.

I'm sure some coaches in HS are more strict than others.
