Sunflower League Extra: Part II

Week Two Players of the Week

Collin Fischer, Olathe South: It's safe to say the Falcon senior has come out of nowhere to most outside of the Falcons' camp. On Friday he toted the ball 27 times for 184 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Fischer is generously listed at 5-foot-8 and 165 pounds, but he's lightning quick and very difficult to bring to the ground. Perhaps the most interesting thing about Fischer: he's committed to Rockhurst University to play lacrosse.

Duron Lowe, SM Northwest: Lowe is a yards-per-carry machine. As a sophomore he averaged 8.2 yards per carry on 66 carries, and so far this season he's averaging 11.2 yards per carry on 22 carries (it helped than on Friday his first two carries went for 80 and 92-yard touchdowns). He's battling some nagging injuries, so he didn't play the second half of Friday's game, but he still managed 202 rushing yards and two touchdowns on just 11 carries against SM North.

Week Two Coach of the Week

Chip Sherman, Olathe Northwest: The Ravens' complete effort against SM West (three touchdowns, one field goal, three takeaways, a blocked punt and a shutout) was impressive and another little glimmer of Sherman's impact on the grounds at K-7 and College Boulevard. Olathe Northwest didn't play their best football in the season-opener -- a loss to 4A opponent Hays. But Sherman kept the team focused, and this bounce-back victory was important for the team's psyche. It also sets them up well for a trip to Leavenworth on Friday.

Who is dropping the ball for Olathe North on defensive stats? If they are willing to give offensive stats then they should willing to give TEAM stats. I'm pretty sure last time I checked the defense did pitch a shutout the second half of the game against a good Free State.

I was the one mainly supplying the defensive stats for ON last year. Now that I don't attend the school it's impossible for me to obtain the stats. I still find it strange that only offensive stats are submitted.

This goes for the other programs too. If I could watch all the games online I would gladly count the defensive stats but sadly I can't do that soooo yeah

@parkersoukup - thanks for posting the video of Seurer's cute airplane move....and guess what - No "taunting" flag was thrown! Go figure.

For what it's worth, Olathe North is reporting TEAM defensive stats, which suggests they should have them on an individual basis as well. EagleGrad, Kenny, or whomever is connected to the Olathe North program, if you know who tracks the defensive side of the football you may reach out to them.

Don't feel bad ON is NOT the only team. "Dropping the ball" in this department.

Austin Lockwood said...

Yeah they definitely have individual stats but I wouldn't know who to contact.

Gene weir has made some unusual personnel changes on the ON defense that defy logic. Some that involve players with over 100 tackles last season. If you read between the lines you will understand why some coaches dont want stats available for outside scrutiny.

Wait so are Lawrence and SMNW reporting team stats as well? If so, maybe it would be nice to post team totals as well?

Coach Mcarntey does the stats for ON. I've heard talk Weir only cares about offense stats being showed. They call it five and diming it! I will let you figure that one out. The boys on the D- line deserve to have their names and stats out there. Weir needs to make sure they are shown!!! Thoses boys have worked hard for him and I believe he owes them that. Get on it Weir, show them its not just about the offense or the five and dime trio too!!!! Go ON
