2011 Sunflower League Preseason Coaches Poll

Olathe North once again
tops the list in the prese-
ason coaches poll.
The Sunflower League coaches have weighed in, and for the third consecutive year Olathe North is the preseason favorite in the coaches poll.

The Eagles received 111 points overall, including five first place votes.  They finished 11 points ahead of the number two team, Olathe East, who received 100 points and two first place votes.

Olathe South received three first place votes, and tied with SM West for third place with 95 points.  SM West notched one first place vote, as did Lawrence, who tied SM East for fifth overall in the voting.

Free State beat out SM Northwest by four points for seventh place, and those two were followed by Olathe Northwest, SM North, SM South and Leavenworth, respectively.

Team rankings, with first place votes in parenthesis, and point totals based on voter rankings, are listed below.

2011 Sunflower League Preseason Coaches Poll

1. Olathe North (5) 111
2. Olathe East (2) 100
3t. Olathe South (3) 95
3t. SM West (1) 95
5t. SM East 85
5t. Lawrence (1) 85
7. Lawrence Free State 61
8. SM Northwest 57
9. Olathe Northwest 39
10. SM North 26
11. SM South 22
12. Leavenworth 18

Perhaps the most obvious point of note to me is the indecisiveness about the league's top team, even amongst the SL coaches themselves.  Five different schools received first place votes, which is the same as last year when we had five different schools claiming first place votes in the preseason poll as well.

I do know coaches can not vote for their own teams in this poll.

No surprise here. I have heard rumors that the Sunflower wants Leavenworth out to make room for Aquinas, has anyone else heard this. Leavenworth should consider dropping football, they are badddddd.

I haven't heard that. I just doubt that the sunflower league is looking to add a 5A private school. Most leagues are trying to get private schools out.

Maybe, I know that a 5A STA would be a lot more competitive in all sports that Leavenworth. I wouldn't look at classification, would look at competitiveness, who knows may just be a rumor.

Yeah, the EKL (coaches anyway) have been trying to get them and Bishop Miege out because they are TOO competitive in a lot of sports.

Well Sunflower is not EKL. It's more like the premier league in Kansas. I think STA would be a very good fit in the Sunflower league. The have success in a lot of sports.
