1. Brad Strauss, Quarterback, Lawrence
Week Five Stats: 9-of-17 passing, 186 yards, 1 TD; 9 carries, 192 yards, 1 TD
The loss of running back Charles Jackson will certainly put an increased emphasis on Strauss running the football, but in week five against SM East Strauss handled it quite well. Perhaps more importantly, for the first time all season Strauss didn't throw an interception in a game.
2. Treshawn Root, Running Back, Olathe North
Week Five Stats: 18 carries, 108 yards
Root didn't need to do much for Olathe North to beat Leavenworth, so he saw limited action against the Pioneers. He played tremendously in week one against rival Olathe East, and we'll see if he can have a repeat of that effort this Friday against another rival in Olathe South.
3. Willie Cauley, Wide Receiver, Olathe Northwest
Week Five Stats: 11 receptions, 223 yards, 1 TD
Say all you want about Cauley's height advantage, but the kid continues to produce week in and week out. It's no wonder he tenders as many elite college basketball scholarship offers as he does and it makes you wonder if playing two sports at the next level would be out of the question for him?
4. Orange Mooney, Running Back, Olathe North
Week Five Stats: 12 carries, 129 yards, 2 TDs
Mooney's services, like Root's, were not in high demand in the Eagles 44-0 victory last Thursday. Despite this, Mooney still had a nice game averaging 10.75 yards per carry and tallying two touchdowns.
5. Gabe Guild, Running Back, SM South
Week Five Stats: 30 carries, 342 yards, 3 TDs
Guild has been a solid force for the Raiders all season long and he truly had a breakout performance against SM Northwest. His 342 rushing yards is believed to have been the top single-game rushing performance, in terms of yardage, in the Sunflower League in the last decade.

What's going on with Elliot Faerber this year?
His QB isn't John Schrock?
He should be happy he committed to Illinois before season. This season wouldn't get him any looks.
Question is, did he play last Friday night? or is in street clothes for the remainder of the year?

District 2 – Shawnee Mission-East, Shawnee Mission-North, Shawnee Mission-Northwest,

District 3 – Olathe-East, Overland Park-Blue Valley North, Overland Park-Blue Valley Northwest,

District 4 – Gardner-Edgerton, Olathe-North, Olathe-Northwest, Olathe-South
LAW and LFS again get a free pass to the playoffs the next two years just like when they had the Topeka schools in their district. An all Shawnee Mission District means no more years of 4 mediocre teams from SM making the playoffs. OE looks to have it pretty easy. And poor ONW Ravens...G/E, ON and OS all in the same district, that should be a wild ride and a big 0-3 for the Ravens both years.
Those districts are not true. they are the same as last year. SME has already played SMN and SMNW. That is next years. And for SME ive never been so disappointed they went from the best team in school history, to the most disappointing team in school history. They have a solid Defense Back group and good Receivers and a decent line. They need to step it up, and yes Faerber suffered a concussion and did not play. I doubt he plays next week either. For as much community support they get, they better start rolling again.

An yes Todd, everyone knows that it is next years districts. you are the only one who didn't understand that is what he was stating. They always announce the next districs every 2 years in Oct.

Last Week (5-1) Season (25-5)
Well, the big game for the confernce championship game (probably) is this week. Last week before districts, next week they really start to count.
ONW(2-3) @ SMN(1-4) (Thurs.) The Ravens gave a game effort against the Falcons last week but came up short. Do they have anything left in the tank? The Indians have been abysmal since their opening week win. Things don't get any better here. ONW 31 SMN 14
LFS (4-1) @ SME (2-3) (Thurs.) A virtual must win for the Lancers, they don't want to go into districts 2-4. Still, the Firebirds have improved as the year has gone along and the Lancer program seems in complete disarray. I'm gonna take the Firebirds on the road. LFS 28 SME 17
LV (0-5) @ SMW (2-3) Vikings also put forth a very game effort against the Hawks last week although any loss to the Hawks is a bad loss. Still, West's remaining opponents are 3-17 and it's hard to imagine a Tim Callaghan team not being able to take care of business and finish 6-3 and get the 3 seed especially as the other option of losing to SME again will leave them with a first round matchup against O North. They've played to the level of their competition all year, let's hope they can break that trend against the hapless Pioneers. SMW 37 LV 7
OS (5-0) @ ON (5-0) The game of the season. The Falcon's Achilles' heel was exposed last week, their defense is still soft although improved from last year. No question South's game plan will be ball control and time of possession keeping Root and Mooney off the field is their only hope. Even if they can grind it out and keep the ball for 36 minutes, the question is how many times can Root or Mooney gallop down the field in the remaining 12 minutes. I just don't see anyone heading off North this year. ON 42 OS 30
SMS (1-4) @ LAW (3-2) Congrats Coach Longeran! I knew the Cougars were in trouble when they were up 28-14 at half in a game between two teams adept at snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. No chance here against the high flying Chesty Lions. LAW 35 SMS 21
OE (4-1) @ SMNW(1-4) Hawks not flashy but so far have taken care of business. They need to focus here in advance of playing in what looks like the toughest district. Cougs crumbled like a dry coffee cake last week and have shown no sign they can put a challenge up against the Hawks. OE rolls. OE 41 SMNW 13

Don't understand the question. Agree with Haley on sme so bad. Any truth that coach Sherman is taking off after season because he is frustrated with the players lack of self discipline?

Districts are determined by record in district games only. The first 6 games of the season have no effect on making the playoffs, although they do count towards seeding. Ties are broken by head to head result and net point difference in district games but you cannot score more than +13 (or less than -13) in any one game.
District winners are seeded 1 through 4. Then it gets complicated. No team is bracketed so that it can face a team from their district in the first TWO rounds. So, since 1 and 4 are in the same side of the bracker and the second place team from the #4 team's distric is usually the worst team, the best seed is usually the #2 seed, who will usually play the worst team available (this year probably the OE/OS winner who would most likely play SMN in the first round).
I don't know footballer, I saw them against Free State in week 1 and they gave up a lot of yards though not many points. ALso you can't sell out against North and put 9 in the box because Bruce is also a pretty good QB and if you think he can't beat you with his arm as well, you haven't been paying attention to ON this year. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see South win this game (my niece is a Falcon) but I saw my Vikings play their best game of the year so far against North and still get slaughtered 48-21. Good luck!
how do you get the 13 points though? like whats the spread line? if you win by so many points it's worth 3?
No, it's just the number of points you win by. If you win 21-18 you get +3 points for that game. And points only come in to play in a three way tie. If two teams are tied at 2-1, it's decided only by head to head result.
EagleLover1 that is very false. He has cancer right now and is fighting 7 hour chemo sessions on weekends and some weekdays. I dont think he has a problem with coaching at SME, in fact he obviously loves it.
well along with getting double and triple teamed this year and having to play with a backup QB he's still manged to have 2 100 yard games, he is opening up other recievers such as Relihan

Haley...thanks for clarifying, I had heard rumors that he was disappointed in the work ethic and comittment of the east players, must not be true. I hope he kicks the cancer, he is a great guy.

Any truth that SME parents trying to get rid of the coaching staff, as they feel the team has completely underachieving. I heard several parents discussing this when I was at the 810 zone on the plaza. They too must be disillusioned about SME football. they seem to think they can pull their money together to get Marvin Deinert from Gardner????
