LV Football boys seem to be keeping pace with the defending state champs. LV 37-SMW 34,pioneers have the ball on the viking 17 yard line with 5:10 remaining in the game.

a few notes here

-when north can get their athletes going they are hard to stop

-having watched all but one game north refuses to grow and learn from mistakes (dumb penalties, taking what the defense gives them, etc.

-going off the last point North and their coaches almost gave the game back to Free state( they might have but had help from the refs. I'll get into later)

-Free state did not look prepared to play Bottom line I believe north can play with anyone but free state looked a lot like north has all year

-refs did a pretty good job overall and you never wanna get into what if situation, I mean its always on you to make enough plays to win but with just under 10 minutes in the game in the midst of free state creeping back ON RB clearly fumbled and free state returned it who knows how the game would of ended

-just because I really need to vent once again Im tired of sloppy selfish play by the North guys, Coaches needa get in their and lead the team if the boys aren't going to, They are beating themselves in a lot of drives

-really hope they play again would be a good game

Really sad news! Andre Maloney was taken out in an ambulance after collapsing on the sidelines right before the half. Haven"t heard any updates. According to my sources he came out after a long run began to stagger on the sidelines and just collapsed. Say a prayer for the young man and hope he is OK.

The league this year is nuts.

Just watched a great game by the Pioneers beating the defending state champs. 4 years ago LV routinely had a running clock in the second half due to them losing so bad. Their win tonight is validation of their growth and never quitting. They don't have the horses as the other sunflower schools but showed their heart is their strength .
Randall for Simone! Hope Maloney is OK.

KS Star says Andre's been moved to neurological ICU at Research Medical Center. If anyone at West has any info, please let us know. Hang in there, Andre.

blogger23543, even with the blown fumble call, I would have felt bad if FS won, to tell you the truth. When you play that bad - and coaches don't make adjustments until it's too late - you don't deserve to win, period. For some odd reason, FS seems to need some kind of adversity to wake up and play to their capabilities. It's happened in 4 out of 5 games, so last night was hardly a surprise. You'd think they would have learned from last week that teams get pretty excited to play the #1 team on their home turf. To come out as flat as FS did and stay that way... no excuse. Maybe they have too much talent and think that is enough to win. Think again, boys. This is big boy football. You have to earn wins, people don't just give them to you. ON deserves a lot of credit. Despite some mistakes on their part, they were more ready to play and it showed.

Andre and the SMW community, please know that I, and no doubt, the entire league is praying for you all. Recover, heal and thanks for being a great person as well as a great player.

@ Imp...and all concerned,

the Star is reporting he suffered a stroke during the game and 810 Varsity is also reporting he had surgery early this morning to remove a blood clot in his brain. Both are reporing he is in ICU.

To Andre, family, friends and West community...please know that you are in the thoughts and prayers of so many!!! there are several people, myself included, who are sending positive energy your way!

First off, my prayers go out to Andre and his family for a full recovery.

Was at LFS/ON game it appeared to me as though LFS(TEAM) thought they would just roll out their helmets and ON would lay down for them. Not a good look for a program that is SUPPOSED to be one of top in state.

Sorry sunflowermom there has been a lot of conflicting reports on that, a friend of his tweeted a few minutes ago that he was still alive and breathing. Death is a painful thing so let's not try to say something unless our source is 100% true.

Unfortunately it looks like it's just a matter of time. This is just so random and crazy. Makes you think about living day to day. I can only wish the family well.

Free State had their fair share of bad sportsmanship, I didn't really pay attention when I heard that there have been incidents of late hits and dirty play between Free State and Olathe East but frankly, as soon as we were up 13-0, Free State began trying to start fights and trash talking throughout the rest of the game. I can't complain much since Olathe North won, but there is no reason for that kind of behavior.

(Dineen getting in the face of a North defender after a 6-yard gain made me realize what they were doing.)

That said, Olathe North reacted very badly to the dirty play and we can't continue an attitude like that either.

I still believe it was a great game despite some mistakes by both teams.

Oh wow I had heard about that incident around school today but I didn't know who it was, this is such a terrible chain of events.

Horrible sad news today. Nothing but prayers and heavy hearts to the Maloney family. To each young man strapping on a helmet tonight be thankful for every moment you have. You may be warriors on the field but when the final second ticks away your a band of brothers.

Andre Maloney died early this evening following a stroke he suffered last night. I would ask that everyone keep Andre and his family in your thoughts and prayers.

There will be a candlelight vigil for Andre on Sunday evening, and I will provide details on that, as well as funeral information, in a post on Sunday.

...I thought it was fitting that Andre's last true moment on this earth was catching a 63-yard touchdown pass. The kid was something special, and I'll do my best to make sure his legacy lives on.

Well said, Eli, just inexpressable sadness, such a waste of such a smart, talented, exciting young man. There is just no way to make sense of this. The only thing to take away from this is that he died doing the thing he loved most and the thing he was best at. Thank you, Andre Maloney for all the exciting plays, the state championship and for being a great kid. You will be missed by all.
