Mark Littrell named Leavenworth head coach

New Leavenworth head coach
Mark Littrell. LV Times.
Mark Littrell has been named the head coach at Leavenworth.  Littrell will fill the void left by Kevin Kopecky who announced in February that he was leaving Leavenworth to become the head coach at Eudora.

Littrell is a household name around the Sunflower League.  He joined Olathe South's football staff in 1982 as an assistant coach.  In 1998 he was promoted to head coach and a year later he led the program to the 6A state title game.

His Olathe South teams were a dominant fixture through the mid-2000s, making two more 6A state title game appearances in 2004 and 2007.  He accumulated a 71-33 record during his ten years as the head coach of the Falcons.

Following the 2007 campaign, Littrell accepted an offer to become an assistant coach for current Olathe North head coach Gene Wier, who at the time was the head coach at Richland High School near Fort Worth, Texas.

Littrell served four years as an assistant under Wier at Richland, before Wier returned to Kansas to coach Olathe North.  Littrell served as an assistant coach this past fall at Birdville High School, also located in the Fort Worth area.

Looks like Leavenworth made a solid hire.

Yeah, Littrell was a home run type of hire for Leavenworth.

The Sunflower League is as stacked with as much coaching talent as, well, maybe ever.

I am optomistic about Leavenworth's chances this year. They bring back a lot of starters and some decent size not to mention Jason Randall who I felt ran as hard as anyone last year. If they go ground and pound and Randall gets 20-25 carries a game I see a top 4 or better Sunflower Run and a potential birth in the playoffs (that would most likely come at Chesty's expense) in them this year. QB is young, and he'll need to play well. @theRev_Carnahan

Chesty Dad, we share the same thoughts but I am thinking the Lions and Pioneers will finish tied or Lions 1 game better.
