1. Joe Dineen, Lawrence Free State, Quarterback
Week four stats: 8-of-15 passing, 181 yards, 3 TDs; 15 carries, 56 yards, 1 TD; 6 tackles
Dineen's 14 touchdowns through four games has him on pace to score just over 31 touchdowns in the regular season. Since 2000, only seven players have scored more than 30 touchdowns in an entire season.
2. Christian Blessen, SM East, Quarterback
Week four stats: 8-of-14 passing, 125 yards, 1 TD; 13 carries, 42 yards
Blessen is the heart and soul of the SM East offense. He's running the flexbone like he's been working in the system for four years, when in actuality he's only been in it for just over four months.
3. Ra'Keim Abdul, SM South, Safety
Week four stats: 25 carries, 166 yards, 1 TD; 8 tackles
Abdul is a bonafide FBS talent, and he continues to show it week in and week out. Quite frankly, it's hard to gauge whether he's more valuable on offense or defense. He's been stellar on both sides of the ball and his production has been phenomenal considering how much he plays.
4. Andre Maloney, SM West, Cornerback
Week four stats: 2 catches, 29 yards; 6 carries, 49 yards; 3 tackles
Maloney drops a spot after a relatively quiet week four. Free State kept the ball out of his hands, and he had one major lapse towards halftime which allowed a Firebird touchdown. But he also saved several touchdowns with his speed, and he's one of the league's best players regardless.
5. Jason Randall, Leavenworth, Running Back
Week four stats: 23 carries, 177 yards, 2 TDs
It shouldn't come as a surprise that Randall is leading the league in rushing. If you've followed this blog, you know Randall was playing varsity as a freshman in 2010. It only seems right he's doing so well, despite his team's struggles.

The Falcons had more than 1,000 students in attendance for their homecoming game against SM South. Let me repeat that -- 1,000 students. More than half the student body. Oh, and like always the Falcons are the best on Twitter.

I'll throw the Firebirds a bone this week, considering I was at Free State Stadium and was able to see their stands filled to capacity. Granted, that was another homecoming game, but it was still great seeing their support. If only that would translate to road games as well (I know, I know, longer travel distance).

The Lancers are a sleeping giant on Social Media. Their fan support has been superb this year and they had a slight uptick this past week on Twitter. Will it continue? They do play arguably their most heated rival this week in SM South.

Eli, I am really enjoying your blogs. I wanted to mention something though. Oh, and I agree with you; I think that Dineen by far would be my pick for MVP of the league in that he is an all around athlete with finesse on both sides of the ball. I want to mention that as an old (very old) lineman, rarely do they get recognition. Some would argue that's really, linemen don't want to be noticed. I have to say I've never been so impressed as I've been with West's Chambers, Pembridge and Spight. The defense Coach C runs puts them on the ball all the time, and they play both ways. Tough kids. My worst nightmare would be to line up against any of those three. You ever notice that Chambers will flatten a kid and then extend his hand and help them back up? He shows such great sportsmanship, BYU is getting what seems to be a very polite monster.
I notice these kids because I've been to two of their games and I've watched them a couple of times on television. I am sure there are other great linemen in the SFL that don't get much recognition. They are the hardest workers on the team in my opinion. Without a line, you haven't got a team at all.

Absolutely, Victor, luv and Pub! I enjoyed the KSMO commentator last week, Baldinger? He is an old lineman and does a good job with shout-outs to the men in the trenches. There are a lot of lineman in this league that will play on Saturdays next year and the year after. Love my beef-eaters at FS! They are doing a great job so far this year. Go 'Birds!

Great point.
I guess it's kind of the nature of the beast when it comes to sports journalism. Without quantifiable individual statistics (I know at the collegiate level many programs track pancake blocks, and most high schools have block %s, but neither are official stats) it's really hard to recognize individual lineman. That is, aside from the coaches All-Sunflower team selections and the attention college recruiters pay to certain players, obviously.
Plus there's the whole matter of which ones to recognize. Not only are there no individual offensive lineman stats, but there's also five lineman -- in most cases -- blocking on each play. Let's say the LG pulls, the C and RG block down on the nose, the RT reaches an inside linebacker, and the pulling LG takes out the defensive end, who is most responsible for the success of that play?
By no means am I disagreeing. I wish there was a way to provide the lineman with more recognition because a dominant line is as valuable as dominant skill positions. It's just really difficult to do so, fairly.
Agree FSF - KSMO-Baldinger does recognize the linemen, as he did with mine at the 1st game of the season!
At the end of last year, I put up a post that graded the O-Lines of the league based on my opinion. I then followed up with a mention of certain linemen that stood out in the games I watched. I'll do the same this year as long as I can see most of the teams a couple of games.
My point is I think you have to grade offensive lines as a whole. Certain players may stand out, but it takes 5 guys working as one unit to make it work.
Last year I graded LFS and SMW as the top two O-lines. We'll wait til the end of the season to see how it goes this year.

I also wanted to comment about Baldys job doing high school games. He does a great job and being an old lineman himself, he does give a lot of time mentioning the linemen. He did last years OS vs LAW game and I still have it on DVR as he repeatedly mentioned how great my son was playing. I was/am one proud dad.
