Tuesday Report: SM East Week

Perhaps SM West's highest human ranking locally is by KC Metro Sports' Brad Porter. The long time anchor and member of the Metro Sports news show has ranked the Vikings #2 in his latest Power Poll. Here is what he had to say about the SM West:

2) SM West (8-0….last week’s rank: 2) – 28-0 over SMN nothing to write home about, but, the West End Boys are rolling at the right time. The Vikes have out-scored their opponents 114-16 over the last three weeks. Wanna piece of the Westies “D?” - Brad Porter

Although I'm not sure the term "Westies" has ever been used to describe the Vikings (at least not in my generation) Porter does makes good mention of how well the SM West defense has performed this season.

The defense has not once allowed an opponent to score over 19 points in a game. They have posted one shutout, and held four opponents to 10 points or less. Perhaps the method to the madness is the defensive alignments set up by the Vikings.

The switch to a 3-5-3 defensive format has proved to be nearly unpenatratable by opposing offenses. Leading the defense from the middle linebacker position is senior, and three year starter Justin Scott. He is flanked by fellow senior Prestan Garcia, junior Alex Snook, junior Adam LeBlanc, and sophomore Drew Humphries. This linebacking combo is as good and talented as any in the Sunflower League.

Add in a highly experienced secondary and a steady defensive line and Vikings have the tools necessary to take care of business on defense --as evidence by their dominance so far this season.
