Ballard Selected by the Vikings in the Fourth Round

Former Lawrence Free State Firebird and Iowa Hawkeye Christian Ballard (left) was selected with the 106th overall pick in the fourth round of the NFL Draft Saturday by the Minnesota Vikings.

The Vikings' top two defensive tackles, Pat Williams and Kevin Williams, are both question marks right now as the former may sign with another team in free agency, and the latter will miss the first four games of the 2011 season serving a suspension.

Assuming the NFL breaks the lockout and goes forward with the 2011 season, Ballard will be looked at to make an immediate impact on the Vikings' depleted front line.

Ballard was viewed by many as a possible late first round or early second round pick, but in the end he slid to the final day of the draft.
