Sunflower League Extra: Week Six

Brad Strauss eluded OS's Braden Smith.
Lawrence Journal World.
Top 5 Player Ratings

1. Brad Strauss, Quarterback, Lawrence
Week Five Stats: 15-of-21 passing, 215 yards, 2 TDs; 15 carries, 64 yards, 3 TDs

It was fitting that Strauss was in on all five of LHS' touchdowns in their 34-27 victory over Olathe South.  The numbers he's put up through five games are as good as any player in the Kansas City metropolitan area and he's on pace to be among the top four Simone candidates come December.  Heck, with the way KU's Dayne Crist has been playing, Strauss may be the best non-redshirting quarterback in Lawrence.

2. Kyle McFarland, Quarterback, Free State
Week Five Stats: 8-of-13 passing, 162 yards, 2 TDs; 9 carries, 128 yards

McFarland gets overshadowed a bit because he shares the city of Lawrence with Strauss, but he's putting up outstanding numbers himself and oh by the way, his team is 4-1 and rolling as well.  His efforts on defense have also been impressive as he's tied for the league lead in interceptions with three.

3. Brett Sterbach, Running Back, SM West
Week Five Stats: 38 carries, 266 yards, 3 TDs

Sterbach gets the nod as the top rated running back in the Sunflower League for the week--and we'll see if he can keep up the numbers to stay in this position.  His running style isn't anything to write home about (and by that I mean there have been running backs who I've witnessed through the years who were really fun to watch run the ball--Andre Jones, Chucky Hunter, etc.) but he runs with a vengeance and is hard to catch up to once he breaks into open field.

4. Gabe Guild, Running Back, SM South
Week Five Stats: 21 carries, 146 yards, 1 TD

Guild, for all intents are purposes, is the best running back in the Sunflower League.  His combination of speed, agility and quickness are unparalleled and he moves like a big-time back.  He drops a spot simply because Sterbach performed better than him in their head-to-head matchup last Thursday.  I still expect Guild to dominate through the rest of the season.

5. Jordan Darling, Quarterback, SM East
Week Five Stats: 10-of-17 passing, 225 yards, 1 TD; 2 rushing TDs

Darling makes his way back onto the list after his three-touchdown effort versus Olathe East.  His most impressive stat is that he's only tossed one interception this season.  He's been just what the doctor ordered for SM East's quarterback position.

Honorable Mention: Jason Randall, Leavenworth; Russell White, Olathe South; Connor Rellihan, SM East; Tye Hughes, Free State; Holdyn Halperin, Olathe Northwest.

Where does mid-states get the stats from?

SMNW can not all be there and even the ones listed are not correct.
For instance Shockley does not have 41 tackles(he has not played defense that much and he would be a beast for as little as he has played "IF" he did have that many tackles) and Lovell Jones has at least 2 sacks and 30+ tackles.
