Thursday Report

Week Six Matchups
All game times 7 pm unless otherwise noted

Olathe North (5-0) at Lawrence Free State (4-1)
After Free State loss to Olathe East in week one there were alot of questions as to whether they would regain their 2008 form. It turns out Free State has done that and more, and is playing as hot as any other team in the Sunflower League. The same can be said for Olathe North--except they haven't had a down game. They have just been flat out dominant. During the summer this game looked like the marquee regular season matchup for 2009 and that is holding true. The winner of this game will be on cloud nine heading into district play next week.

Lawrence (0-5) at SM West (4-1)
Unfortunately for Lawrence their bid for a win faces another steep challenge in SM West--on the Viking's homecoming. Lawrence came close to clipping off Olathe South in week five but they weren't able to put it all together for four quarters. The Chesty Lions are going to need an outstanding effort from everyone to capture a victory on the road at SM West.

Olathe Northwest (2-3) at SM Northwest (3-2)
These two directional twins are coming off shutout losses in week five that placed them squarely in the middle of the conference in terms of standings. Neither team has displayed the consistency necessary to being a top team in the league thus far.

SM East (2-3) at Olathe South (3-2)
SM East's two consecutive wins may be skewed given the fact that those wins came against winless Lawrence and Leavenworth, but regardless, the Lancers collected the victories and now face an Olathe South team that has shown major flashes of brilliance throughout the season.

Olathe East (3-2) at Leavenworth (0-5)
Leavenworth played a much more inspired game last week, but the Olathe East should still role in this one given their wealth of talent at the skill positions. The Hawk's 3-2 record is very deceptive given the tough schedule they have played.

SM South (2-3) at SM North (2-3) (Thursday Night Game)
A win would guarantee a .500 record heading into district play for either of these teams, and right now a win for either squad is in high demand. The records don't lie--both teams are comparable in terms of overall talent level, and strength of schedule.

Great news for SMW fans..the new classfications and districts are out for the next two years. BVHS back down to 5A and Wyandotte HS up to 6A. Even better SMW's district for the next two years includes SME, SMS and BVN...should be a free ride to the playoffs each year! Also LFS no longer a free ride as they are now in Olathe North's district.
