Sunflower League All-Decade Team: Derahn Williams

Name: Derahn Williams
School: Olathe East
Graduated: 2009
Height: 5'9"
Weight: 175lbs.
Position: Defensive Back

Derahn Williams gets the nod at the defensive back position because of his consistent presence as the leader of the Olathe East secondary over his high school career. Williams started cornerback for Olathe East as a sophomore, but his name gained attention at the beginning of his junior season when he made the brash prediction to The Olathe News that he would finish the season with 10 interceptions. Williams made it half way to the goal grabbing five interceptions during the 2007 season. Williams took home first team Sunflower Conference honors as a junior and helped Olathe East make it to the Sectional round of the playoffs, to finish with a 9-2 record.

As a senior in 2008, Williams stayed away from predictions--instead he let his playing do the talking. He finished the season with 52 tackles, 16 pass break ups, and nine interceptions. Williams also added 14 catches for 186 yards on offense. He helped Olathe East to an undefeated regular season and a 9-1 record overall. Williams' stellar season earned him First Team All-State Class 6A Honors, and First Team All-Metro Sports at the defensive back position.

I would agree with this one here. there a few other guys I would have added including codi willard who had 7 ints his junior year and was a shutdown corner his senior year, who quarterbacks rarely threw to his side. I would also say Shepard would have been a good choice. he didn't blossom until college though and turned out to be one hell of a football player.
