Post-Season Accolades

Below is a look at some of the post-season accolades received by Sunflower League players. A few things of note: the Kansas Coaches All-State team only is only for seniors, hence the fact that no underclassmen are on the roster. Also, as far as star-power goes, it appears that the Sunflower League's talent reputation across the metro was down this season. For instance, of the Star's 24 First Teamers, only four were from the Sunflower League. Perhaps the lack of representation was warranted, but regardless, it's one of the lowest totals I've seen on their All-Metro team in years.

Eli, you spelled Accolades incorrectly. Just helping you out.

Why is the board so slow? Hey Ravens fans, want to discuss your 20-45 all-time record?

Not a Ravens fan by any means, but all there is to say about it is what you said, they are 20-45, that's a .308 winning precentage. Obviously it's just not a good program and they're okay with that at the school.

I don't think ONW is a football school, they're probably good at other sports, but I only follow football.

Yeah, believe it or not some principals don't put a lot of stock into the football program. All they care is if the coach is doing things 'the right way'- morally I mean. Yes, you can get a good coach that does things 'the right way' but some school administrations only care if they get the later half of the equation.

I don't think I would go on the high moral ground for ONW. Not that he is immoral and low down, but I'm not sure all off-season practices (pads, ball, etc) are 100% by the rules. Not many coaches in the area are 100% by the rules, some skate the line and some don't even acknowledge a line is there. Usually the losing teams try to claim that as the reason for the record although none are perfect.
It would be great if all the area schools actually followed the rules instead of finding ways to "get around" them.

I totally agree with the above post. Didn't ONW have a shady full pad scrimmage with Paola or something a couple years ago (which, if you don't know, would be illegal according to KSHSAA rules) Maybe there's a loop hole or something. Every coach lives to find those loop holes.

Guys, I don't think there's anything shady going on. Dain's pretty above-board. The KSHSAA rules had a substantial loophole that allowed those sorts of scrimmages that the smarter coaches used to their advantage.

They've been the smallest of the Olathe schools for a few years, but that is in the process of changing. In 2008 they had good backs but no line. In 2010 they had a decent line, but not enough elsewhere.

Look for all the good kids to be there at once beginning with the 2015 graduating class.

If they aren't challenging for state titles from 2014 through 2017, then I think you'd be justified to question the coaching.

Football takes numbers, and youth programs in gear for a while. It is on the way.
