2012 Player Spotlights: Gabe Guild

Gabe Guild.
Gabe Guild
SM South

Position: Running Back
Height: 5-foot-10
Weight: 190 lbs.
Year: Senior

Stat to Note
Last season, in a week five victory against SM Northwest, Guild toted the ball 30 times for 342 yards and three touchdowns.

Scouting Report
For all intents and purposes, Guild basically came out of nowhere to have a monster season in 2011.  The run-based offense that head coach Ryan Lonergan brought with him from SM West to SM South helped Guild's cause, and he'll have plenty of chances to run the ball again in 2012 behind a much more experienced offensive line.

A couple of key points to note about Guild.  For one, he churned out a filthy 1,641 rushing yards in the Raiders nine games.  That led all Sunflower League running backs at regular season's end, and it came on just 199 carries.  All told, he averaged 182.3 rushing yards per game and 8.2 yards per carry.

Guild possesses deceptive speed and he runs with a head full of steam.  He was able to fly under the radar for a large portion of last season, but this year he will have the challenge of being the focal point of game planning for SM South for an entire year.  The Raiders were better than their 2-7 record suggested in 2011 and we'll see if players like Guild can help them jump the .500 barrier.

If you saw him at all last year you know there is nothing deceptive about his speed. He is flat out explosive. I personally know he has run a low 4.4 40 this year. I look for him to have a monster season this year.

Here is the schedule according to the league but this is not 100% accurate as there are only 5 games listed in week 1 and 4 and some weeks have the same game listed twice but only 6 total games. I suppose if you wanted to take the time you could figure out what games are missing. SMW's sched is brutal again with LHS, LFS, ON and OE the first 4 weeks. Could be lucky to start 1-3.
