SMW rolls 28-17. Guild a 51 yd TD run on first play then West held him in check pretty well. Sterbach off the charts a 78 yd TD run. Not sure how many total yards. Sterbinator 1 Guild 0.

the mentor wins...SMW

South made a ton of mistakes. Problems with exchange, hback pass into double coverage, etc. Ultimately, west line won the battle. Guild didn't have many holes all night. Preuter took sacks when he could have easily thrown ball away. West was clearly better team in 2nd half

South has improved so much though... Not a team to look over.

LOL, not that it matters, but, did anyone else at the game think the refs were spotting the ball excessively favorable to SMWest during the first couple of drives of the first half? I swear when West got the offensive offsides penalty at the 6 inch line, I was willing to be the ref would spot it at the 4. Maybe it was just me.

TheImpaler said...

I thought the spots were horrible all night. South had an 8 yard holding penalty two. Two consecutive series on West's 8 minute TD drive to start the second half, it appeared on the spot at South's 39 that Sterbach was well short of the line but they gave it to him...the next series at the 29 looked like he made it with ease and they marked him short. I didn't think it favored either team but it was very sloppy.

I guess we now know where the NFL Replacement Refs are.

Sms really needs to fix the center/quarterback exchange. Im sure there were over a half dozen bobbled and fumbled snaps. Its happened in other games but not near as much.

What games are webcast tonite?

Free State rolled as expected, but SMN does have talent... just need more of it. I give them a lot of props, despite being down 14-0 right off the bat, they never quit. Go 'Birds!

Enjoy it biscuit. Can't say it breaks my heart to see my dearly beloved Hawks at 1-4 now.

I don't think anyone wants to go up k-10 for anything except CBAC... SFL decided next week?

TheImpaler said...

I tell you what though, last night I saw the two best running backs in the league...come week 9 I might make the drive to Lawrence to see Strauss vs. McFarland. Definitely worth the price of the ticket. Hopefully you'll take LFS out next week and the SME-SMW game will be for all the marbles.

Seth Nation said...

Wow never have I heard so much hype that didn't pay out....O-South, Braden Smith....Didn't impress me at all tonight. The LHS freight train is at full speed.....Good luck to everyone else this year, the league title will be residing in Lawrence this year.

The Biscuit said...

Blackburn may not have the stats but as Eli will confirm he is the toughest tackle/one of the top backs in the league... BeastMode Blackburn

footballer21 said...

You weren't impressed when he tossed your d-lineman onto the track???that was the only impressive thing that's happened in a while for south though, unfortunately

Seth Nation said...

I thought he did well on offense, but he was a complete non factor on defense....actually he did not even get into the backfield once. While throwing a D-lineman on the track may be cool, unfortunately it didn't win the game. What I saw actually out of O-South was a massively large team whose offensive line was dominated time and time again by a smaller LHS Defense, and the same massive OS D-Line was dominated by an LHS O-line who becoming a very good unit. Brad Strauss was not touched one time in the backfield last night. His only tackles being when he ran the ball. O-South looked unmotivated all night. The superhype that has been building all year with this team wasn't there in the game I saw last night. I still stand that if the LHS defense holds any team to 20 points..the game is over. Strauss and Co. as they are being labeled are to talented to be stopped. If LFS stops SME this week....the game of the year will be OCt.26th when LHS plays LFS...the title goes through Lawrence.

OS is experiencing the ultimate let down factor. They were on an all-time high from last season. Came into the year ready to repeat and probably thought they could. Unfortunately when your trying to replace players like Ward,Colbert, Johnson,Gurley,Devries among others its a lot easier said than done. It appears to me that Gurley has fallen in to the one dimensional trap. What happened to their passing game? I think South was overrated from the get go. Look at the bright side you could be Olathe East. Lawrence still the cream of the crop.

I watched the Olathe North film this morning. Congrats to the Eagles. Its amazing what a couple of seam routes will do for a struggling offense. The addition of one play was a huge factor in their win. Its not rocket science. Way to go V Trip.

footballer21 said...

Seems like you guys are over-reacting about OS a little bit..just got done playing on the road against the leagues best three teams in three weeks, most teams would be glad to come away with one win. The rest of their schedule is cake so they will easily win out, and they are the only team at the top of the league that has significant playoff experience, I wouldn't be surprised at all to see this team return to the state championship.

The score was acctually 33-6 olathe north

Jayhawk241 said...

Seth, of all of Strauss' passes, how many did you think he sat in the pocket?? Probably only 25% of them. The rest were sprint outs. That's how you stop a great DT, make him run from sideline to sideline. You didn't expect him to chase Strauss down, did ya? They wen 3X1 and sprint out to that wide side of the field about 75% of the time, with crossing and intermediate routes and hit em allllll day. Smart part on Lawrence's coaching staff, they deserved that victory, I'm just arguing that you should know what Lawrence was doing.

Seth Nation said...

Jayhawk, I knew exactly what they were doing, I attend every practice to watch my son...my point was dropping back or rolling back regardless the OS D-Line had zero penetration they were dominated all night by the LHS O=Line. Strauss could have stood in the same spot, counted to 6 and the decide what he wanted to do on nearly every play. If you have a line that big...with a player so overly hyped, you should be embarrassed...would not want to be an OS lineman this week in film sessions...

Seth, come on that win was a great one for the program and a real confidence builder, but I wouldn't go so far as to bash a great Olathe south team who Lawrence will probably see again in November. Lawrence high played basically the best game (minus the 2010 Olathe east game) that they have since Strauss has started at QB. Lets not forget also Lawrence couldn't quite close the door until the very end.

Bird Hunter said...

If LHS dominated both sides of the line of scrimage as Seth says they did, than I have a hard time understanding why only a 7 point win?

Seth Nation said...

That game wasn't even close until the 4th quarter...I'm just saying from all of the build up I was expecting a lot more. There are a lot of great teams this year for sure..I just think the two Lawrence teams are head and shoulders better. We found out this week, and hopefully LFS will show that against SME next week. LHS gave up a game in week one that should have been a win by two touchdowns. Yes the weather was bad, but that's not an excuse. Had LHS scored to win by one on that last drive, they would be 5-0 right and honestly would probably be considered the #1 team in state. Because of that loss they have been scraping for respect, all the while averaging nearly 40 points a game, and 440 yds of offense per game....not to mention the fact that going into this week our passing defense was allowing 39 yds a game. Our run defense (180 yds per game) is skewed because the majority of those yards have come in the 4th quarter against our second team.....I'm not meaning to take away other's accomplishments only to hype our own...Not living in Johnson County somebody has to

Seth Nation said...

It was a two touchdown lead the entire game, if a fumble recovery had been called correctly, giving us the ball and not them in the 4th it very easily could have been a 3 Td win

Sunflower_Blogger said...

I'm sure the Lawrence high players and coaches would really appreciate it if you weren't on here running your mouth about things you don't know about. Thanks

Seth Nation said...

I'm sorry I thought a comment section was for comments...God knows there are enough Olathe or Shawnee Mission folks talking junk.

Sunflower_Blogger said...

You're right, but in my opinion, let the players do the talking on the field.

They did

Exactly and that game is in the past, time to move on

Living in Lawrence, I had the opportunity to watch that game, and in my opinion, in no way was that a dominating win for Lawrence. Yes it was a solid win, and they deserved it. One opinion could be that Lawrence's offense had a great first half (28-14), and then Olathe South adjusted and ran out of time to correct for their first half defensive gaffs- OS outscored Lawrence in the 2nd half 13-7. I wouldn't call allowing 14 pts in one half dominating for any defense. Allowing over 200 yds rushing and 4 rushing TDs is not a dominate defensive line performance either, In my opinion. At no point was Lawrence's 2nd team Defense or offense in the game. What I got out of watching that game is that the only thing that can stop Brad Strauss is a Tropical Depression. That kid is a baller. I'm not taking anything away from Olathe South on that one. But fans of certain teams always want to see things the way they want to see them.

I will say, this is a bizarro year in East Kansas football Sunflower and EKL alike. Olathe Schools down, SM Schools up... and I won't even get into the EKL on this blog, but man, you never know who is going to win week in and week out over there this year.

Govannon Grey said...

Point of correction, it was 13-6 OS to LAW in the second half.

I think any discussion related to SL football (assuming it's not laced with explicits or making personal attacks) is awesome for the league.

Several years ago there was no centralized discussion amongst league fans the way there is now in the comments section. I'm still keeping my fingers crossed that Blogger will come out with a message board feature soon, but in the meantime I encourage everyone to continue to post as many comments as they like and to speak their opinion on the league.

Eli Underwood said...

And from someone who made the second half of the LHS vs. OS game, LHS in my opinion, had the game in control because no matter what Olathe South did you knew Strauss was going to bring it on the next possession.

If he stays healthy (and the weather stays dry on Friday nights) teams are going to have a really tough time beating LHS. Assuming Strauss doesn't have an off game, he operates LHS' offense as effectively as any quarterback I've seen operating an offense in the SL.

TheImpaler said...

Strauss is fantastic but SMW is the kind of team that's going to cause him problems rain or no rain. My big worry as a Lion fan would be the complete and utter lack of a kicking game. You go up against a team like the Vikings with a rock solid defense and a ball control offense, missed extra points and short kick offs and punts are going to be a real achilles heel.

Seth Nation said...

Your definitely right on that point. If anything is going to come back and haunt us it's not having a kicker
