Seems like there was an overall lack of excitement this week (players, fans, coaches, etc.). I guess that's the product of having six weeks of football that have no impact on playoff implications.

But district time is here, folks. Get excited.

TheImpaler said...

Vikes and Lions alone atop the conference standings. No real big games next week in that regard but the SMS-BVNW game should be intersting. ON-ONW looks like a close call. I think G/E looks pretty dissapointing on the year, Falcons should cruise that district. All the other games look like blowouts.

Olathe East defeated Olathe North in Sherwin Williams watching paint dry bowl. This had to be the most boring game to watch of the season. The punters provided the excitement tonight in a battle of three yards and a cloud of dust. What a waste of time. Get some coaches in there with some ingenuity.

Yeah, daddy, it's kind of sad that that district is going to get two playoff spots. OE, SMS, BVNW all the pefect picture of mediocrity this year. I hope the Raiders can squeak one of those spots out. LAW, LFS, SMW, SME should all be in but it's a shame two of those teams will have to go on the road in round 1 while one of those mediocre teams gets a home game.

Who's Your Daddy, that might have been the funniest thing I've read all year.

Frickin had to work tonight... Didn't miss much I guess. Bummer.

As I said last week, SMS needs to correct the center/QB snap. Its been happening all year.

Lawrence was very beatable. 2 muffed Center/QB exchanges and a unbelievable "pick up the flag" when Brown was 10 yards downfield. MetroSports even agreed and its obvious on the game film. SMS needs to quit shooting themselves in the foot. SMS will be mediocre until they learn how to perfect the center/QB exchange.

A good running team with decent pass defense who doesn't make mistakes will beat Lawrence. Oh, I guess SMWest already did. No fluke.

Lawrence was very beatable?...must have been a different view from the home side of the stands...I thought we played our worst game of the year by far, however I never once felt threatened or concerned that SMS was going to mount a comeback. I think going for it on 4th and goal versus kicking the field goal and taking the lead, showed a complete lack of faith from the SMS coach in his defense....Yes we played horrible, had our first two offensive fumbles of the year....SMS had some great individual efforts, Union and Guild were beasts, but as a spectator I was more worried the SMS snack bar was going to run out of coffee, than I was of a Raider comeback win...

SMS watcher said...

Seth, I can see how you didn't feel concerned or threatened. SMS couldn't snap the ball to the quarterback and shot themselves in the foot with penalties most of the second half. It looked a lot like a repeat of the previous week vs SMW.

To be quite honest, I don't know how Lawrence's defense stopped OS last week. It wasn't there this week and SMS was doing a better job of stopping themselves than Lawrence. I'm sure this was a let down week after last week for Lawrence. I saw some of the OS-LAW game and Brown was an animal. I didn't hear his name much tonight.

I'm just disappointed because I saw a lot of effort and enough talent from SMS to win given the way Lawrence played, but, its the same old story -- another loss to the top half of the sunflower league.

We did not play well, and yes the center/qb was a problem, but SMS had some players man, Guild, and Union, were great...whoever #66 was played great also....LHS defense had its moments (stops, picks, 4th down stand) but our run defense is way to up and down...I still believe if our D can hold a team to 20 we are in a great shape to win the game....as for Brown he returned a fumble for a TD, rushed for a 2pt conversion, and ran well in the second half

Seth Nation said...

Shawnee Mission fans are awful quiet tonight....big win for Free State can't wait for Oct. 26th

Seth Nation said...

I do think the LHS coaches made great adjustments at the half...Guild had 124 by the half, and only 38 in the second......don't know if this is his least amount of game total yards this season or not

Not hearing too much about that fact that Free State shut out the undefeated Lancers. Big win for the Firebirds and a message has been sent. This team could very possibly win out and make a deep run into the playoffs. Free State vs. Lawrence High on the 26th will be of epic proportions.

Nothing about Free State shutting out Shawnee Mission East in a 28-0 victory tonight? This is a very hot Free State team that definitely sent a message to the rest of the league tonight. Could very possibly win out and make a deep run into the playoffs. FS vs. LHS on the 26th will be of epic proportions.

TheImp's week 7 power ratings:

1. LFS
2. SMW
3. LAW
4. SME
5. OS
6. SMS
7. OE
8. ON
9. LV
10. ONW
11. SMNW
12. SMN

I think the top 5 are all very competitve and any one could beat any other one on any given night. Very evenly matched this year. It comes down to matchups. For instance, I think the Vikes match up well againt teams like LAW and SME, not so well against LFS amd our nightmare draw in the playoffs is O South, a team that can out-quick us and runs a very confusing misdirection offense which could really take advantage of our over-pursuit.

Who's Your Daddy said...

Hey Wii not fit. You make me nervous when you use terminology like fondle when describing anything related to football. I'd suggest a different approach. NLOL.

Who's Your Daddy said...

Hey Thelmpaler I'm with you. I hope SMS and BVNW come out of that district. Guild is a great RB and deserves to be in the playoff limelight. BVNW has the best run pass ratio out of the bunch and I expect them to be there. BVN has a coach that fell from the three yards and a cloud of dust tree ON. And we all know that OE has the King in that category.

Who's Your Daddy said...

I had to laugh when I read the paper this morning and saw the quotes from Jeff Meyers about last nights game. " We used a double tight end set in the second half and that allowed us to run both ways". or " We won a cross town rivalary against a really good team". Are you kidding me!! How did this guy last this long. Somebody Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Who's Your Daddy said...

It looks like The best football you will see in Lawrence this year will be when LAW plays LFS. I'll be there. I say we let the two High Schools make an AllStar team and play the Jayhawks for the city Championship. My moneys on the HS team.

Who's Your Daddy said...

Hey Thelm, I think your wrong about GE. They are starting to take shape after a very poor start. If Hobby can continue to improve they have a chance to make some noise. Don't underestimate any Deiner team. Coaches like him find ways to adapt to adversity. All those State Championships didn't happen by accident. And by the way they still have Wrench. Look out for the Trailblazers.

The Biscuit said...

@Who There's absolutely NO way an all-star team from Larry beats KU. Period. Maybe some really terrible small JUCOs but not a D-1 team. Sims would score a TD on every single play. It's almost grown men vs boys... Silly silly statement.

Hey biscuit, relax. It's called a tongue and cheek comment. We all know the D1 team would win. Maybe it would light a fire under the Hawks if they read that.

Biscuit, it is just a great compliment from WYD stating that the two Larry teams are for real this year. THX for the props, WYD, and Imp, glad to see FS on top of your list. Your my new favorite blogger! Go 'Birds!

Who's Your Daddy said...

Hey FSF, Thanks for clarifying. I am impressed with the two Lawrence Schools. I will be there for the big matchup on the 27th. Not sure where the game is but who cares they both have sick stadiums.

Who's Your Daddy said...

Sorry Biscuit I meant the 26th.

SMS watcher said...

Seth, 66 for SMS is Stephen Erickson.

I just watched the metrosports broadcast again. I really couldn't say whether Lawrence defense adjustments had an impact or not. Sms had 4 possessions in second half and the first 2 started off with holding penalties and the 3rd started off with a sack. Sms scored on the 4th with the wildcat package doing most of the work. That is a nice ball control passing attack with Strauss in the first half. Strauss wasn't as sharp at the start of 2nd half. The sms defense came out and did what the needed to in early 2nd half but the penalties really put the offense in a hole.

That was quite a hit 17 put on 66 on a peel back block on the Strauss sprint out run. I remember it being the loudest hit at the game. It is surprising it didn't even knock him of his feet

LFS vs. LAW is at LAW this year. They both should take care of business the next two weeks, then it will have even greater importance - city, district, maybe even conference champs, top seed in playoffs perhaps. Really don't want to look ahead that far, but it is hard not to... Go 'Birds!

If the lancers wouldn't have thrown two terribly thrown interceptions and rellihan not decided to run a fake punt out of his own endzone then the game vs free state could've gone down to the wire
