Week Nine Players of the Week

Bryce Torneden, Lawrence Free State: Yes, Torneden won Player of the Week honors just a week ago, but his performance Friday was too difficult to overlook. Offensively, the Firebirds' quarterback completed three of his six passes for 67 yards and two touchdowns; he also carried the ball 12 times for 113 yards and two touchdowns. On defense, Torneden logged 13 tackles from his free safety position.This all culminated in Free State's 55-37 victory against a good Topeka team, which completed the sweep of the district.

Tarik Watson, SM West: The Vikings' senior running back played arguably the best game of his career against SM Northwest.this past Friday. Watson carried the ball 28 carries for 241 yards (8.6 ypc) and two touchdowns, and in the process helped SM West to a come from behind fourth quarter victory. The win also secured the all-important playoff berth for the Vikings.

Week Nine Coach of the Week

Mark Littrell, Leavenworth: This season has seen many first for the Leavenworth football program. With a win Friday, they claimed their first district championship in school history. The victory also put their record at 5-4, marking the first time on record they've finished above .500 in the regular season since the 1980s. The Pioneers have made four playoff appearances in school history -- 1973, 1980, 2011 and 2013 -- and yet, they've never won a playoff game. Littrell and Co. have a great shot at breaking down that barrier come Friday.
