Hibbs done at SM Northwest

Linn Hibbs
Linn Hibbs is no longer the head football coach at SM Northwest.

According to the Sumner News Cow, Hibbs tendered his resignation Thursday morning.

The decision was made official on Friday, when the Shawnee Mission School District posted a vacancy for the SM Northwest head coaching position.

Hibbs and his staff went 7-21 (.250) in three years with the Cougars. The highlight of his tenure came in 2013 when they defeated the defending state champs from SM West to qualify for the playoffs.

Hibbs brought an impressive 116-55 record to SM Northwest. He'd spent the previous 15 years of his head coaching career at Wellington High School, where his teams claimed two Class 4A state titles, in 2001 and 2002, and a runner-up finish in 2000.

Despite the resignation as football coach, Hibbs plans to remain at SM Northwest as a physical education teacher.

For SM Northwest, the program will be seeking its fourth head coach since 2005.

Some of you are probably thinking that Jeff Myers would be the perfect replacement for Hibbs. Shawnee Mayor, raised in Shawnee. Well think again. I know for a fact that the SMNW Administration will have no interest.

Any sane person would instinctively know Myers is NOT the guy ergo smnw is probably looking at him.

Throwing this out there, due to the position being open at this time... You could say this is a long shot, and quite obvious that this will not happen in the first place but I would love to see Tony Severino rehired for the position in which he once held 33 years ago for six great seasons.

From 1977-1982, Tony Severino led the Cougars to a 43W-21L record and a State Title for the Cougars finishing 10-2 in 1981. His NW playoff record is more impressive at 7W-3L in 10 GC. I know it is the thought that counts, and always congrats to one of the most iconic KC High School Football figures in our metro area completing his 32nd season at the Rock and owning a 305-72-1 overall record with the Hawklets.

NW & Rock: 348-93-1 in 38 years as a Head Coach!
