Scouting Report
It's rare to find arguably the league's top returning defensive back on a team coming off a two-win season, but that happens to be the case with Perez.  Despite SM North's struggles in 2010 Perez did a great job locking down opposing receivers from his cornerback position.  Perez received Second Team All-Sunflower League honors for his efforts, and he was the only junior defensive back to gain recognition above honorable mention.

Perez' junior season stat line was as solid as they come, with him recording 40 tackles (25 of which were solo) on top of his six interceptions.  SM North didn't have the linebacking or defensive line corps of some of the better teams in the league (which meant Perez had more activity at his secondary position), but he clearly responded well when his number was called on to make a play.  He was also a solid receiver for the Indians and we should see an increased role for him on the offensive side of the ball this season.

With good size and tremendous ball skills Perez is a tough defender for any quarterback to throw at.  SM North has really struggled the past few seasons but it's players like Perez that are giving the program hope for 2011 and into the future.
