Week Eight Sunflower League Extra

Defenders haven't had much luck tackling
Free State's Joe Dineen this season. LJWorld.
MVP Ratings
Ratings are subject to change on a week to week basis.

1. Joe Dineen, Quarterback, Lawrence Free State
Week seven stats: 8-of-16 passing, 148 yards, 2 TDs; 10 carries, 71 yards, 2 TDs

Through seven weeks of play, Dineen leads the Sunflower League in total offense with 1,564 yards, and touchdowns, with 21. Let's just say he's in Simone contention.

2. Venus Triplett, Running Back, Olathe North
Week seven stats: 16 carries, 165 yards, 4 TDs

Perhaps no player in the league has played as well as Triplett over the past three weeks. In that time span he's rushed for 566 yards and nine touchdowns on 63 carries.

3. Connor Leach, Quarterback, Olathe East
Week seven stats: 8-of-8 passing, 166 yards, 2 TDs

Olathe East is always loaded at the skill positions, but it takes a true field general at quarterback to exploit that advantage. Through seven weeks of play, Leach has proven to be just that and more.

4. Jason Randall, Running Back, Leavenworth
Week seven stats: 21 carries, 90 yards, 1 TD

Randall's methodical, grind-it-out effort wore down the Lawrence defense and earned Leavenworth a major victory. He's perhaps the league's best combination of power and speed.

5. Cole Murphy, Quarterback, Olathe North
Week seven stats: 6-of-8 passing, 75 yards, 1 TD; 9 carries, 51 yards

Murphy didn't have to do a whole heck of alot with the offensive line opening up up truck-sized lanes for Triplett to run through, but when he was called on he delivered. And that's been his theme all season.

Honorable Mention: Christian Blessen, SM East; Ra'Keim Abdul, SM South; Jake Seurer, Olathe South; Jordan Brown, Olathe East; Drew Green, Lawrence; Kyle Ball, SM East.

I guess going 8-9 for 217 yards passing with 2 TD's and 1 Int and 1 rushing TD in less than 3 full quarters does not rate for honorable mention............

I think it's based on the whole season but still think AJ deserves at least honorable mention...he had a rough game vs. LV but he IS the leading passer in the league still. Hopefully he and Hobbs are on the same page now and he can show it against the Lancers. I know you can never replace a guy like Andre but Hobbs is also very fast and they just need to get in sync. Not sure who had all the rushing yards last week, was it Tariq Watson? He looked pretty good against LV and didn't fumble. Go Vikes...I'm hoping to get to the game this week for the first time since the LV game.
