TheImpaler's week 1 picks:

LV @ LAW A classic rematch of last year's final game between 0-8 teams won by an uninspired Chesty Lion team 13-6. Lawrence will be looking to improve and although it will be another long season they will get the job done against the Pioneers...LAW 24 LV 6

OE @ SMN A total mismatch on paper, I expect it to be on the field as well. An easy warm up game for the Hawks. OE 49 SMN 7

SMS @ ONW A intriguing matchup of two teams that appeared to be improving much of last year but were hit hard by graduation. Perhaps a heavier toll on the Ravens though. SMS 17 ONW 16

SMNW @ SME A great week 1 matchup between two teams on the cusp last year. SME pulled this one out to make the playoffs. I look for the Lancers to continue to improve under their new coach and make the playoffs easily this year in a soft district. Cougs should also cruise thru their even softer distrcit. SME 25 SMNW 14

OS @ LFS Oh, the vagaries of high school football. 8-3 Firebirds against 4-5 Falcons but virtually everyone has O South on the rise this year and Free State knocked down several pegs. Can Free State surprise in week 1 on their home turf? TheImpaler says 'maybe', the Falcons have not been able to play steady football the last couple of seasons.....LFS 30 OS 28

SMW @ ON Possibly the two best teams in the league meeting in week 1 so neither will be in top form. The danger here for the Vikes is a new QB who has been a bit injury prone behind some new O lineman against that swarming Eagle defense. Look for a steady diet of Cordi and Will but in the end ON is too tough. Vikes may end up 8-1 with a fairly soft schedule after this one but..ON 21 SMW 16
