Over the weekend Olathe North senior running back Adonis Saunders (left) committed to play football at the University of Kansas. The senior chose KU over an offer list that included New Mexico State and Iowa State. Through eight games in his senior season Saunders has carried the ball 113 times for 1,089 yards and 14 touchdowns. His 9.6 yards per carry leads the Sunflower League. He has also made three catches for 94 yards and a touchdown.
Saunders has twice been crowned a state champion. As a sophomore in 2009 he won the Kansas Class 6A 100-Meter title running a 10.91. Saunders did not compete in the 2010 Kansas Track and Field Championships due to a hamstring injury. Last season on the gridiron Saunders started as a cornerback for Olathe North, helping the team to a 13-0 record and a Class 6A state championship.
Saunders joins teammate Victor Simmons who committed to Kansas in June.
